Why I will no longer shop at Target

Today we helped make returns - Lowe's and Target. Lowe's wasn't bad - considering we were returning something purchased in 2005 - they gave us credit without too much fuss. But at Target - well, that's another story.

The new return policy for Target - you can return 2 items in a year without a receipt. That's it - no exceptions. The woman helping us was kind enough to combine 2 items that totalled less than $5 into one item, but was unable to do that for the items that were more than $5. So, make sure you keep that receipt or gift receipt.

Oh - and btw - the gift receipt just means they don't have to use one of the 2 returns. It does not mean they get the amount in credit that you spent buying it. They get the lowest price it has been sold for in the last XX days.

Higgy's two cents: I was at Lowe's, but not Target. The Lowe's folks were semi-helpful, but it took escalation to finalize the return - yet honestly, they no longer even carried the items in stock - so I think we got off pretty well there! Glad I didn't go to Target...

Wow. This will be a real problem for me since I still buy all of my boy's clothes at Target. Thanks to their horrible dressing rooms, we buy the clothes and try them on at home. If they don't work, we take them back.

Enough bummer stuff. Let's get some more Owen-y goodness!

Sarah, If you have the card you paid for it on, they can look up your receipt. So, if you pay debit or credit and lose your own receipt it will still be ok.

In my case, most of my shopping at Target is for gifts. With this new policy, I don't feel comfortable forcing friends who want to return something through this process.

lisa - phew. Thanks for the info. I do have a Target card which I do use. As I said, phew!

Thanks for the info. I'd hate to have to resort to Macy's.
